Up and Running in Dayton:  Nickie is actively involved in the Dayton Up and Running community.  She volunteers and helps organize many local races & events ranging from UAR's kids triathlon to running races and training groups.  These events help raise money for a variety of Dayton non-profits. Nickie launched the first women’s health week at Up and Running and she continues to organize the yearly week as it has evolved from a women’s health panel to hosting an on site mobile mammogram. She also started and over saw the Dayton chapter of Medals 4 Mettle, a national organization that donates race medals to hospitalized children.

Coaching: Nickie has spent time at her alma mater, Bellbrook High School, as a volunteer coach with the women’s cross country team. She currently provides individualized coaching plans for runners and triathletes.

These opportunities afford her the chance to give back to the community that has helped her grow & succeed as a professional triathlete.  Nickie also enjoys speaking engagements for local community groups and non-profits sharing her athletic journey and her cancer survivorship story.

Pancreatic Cancer Action Network:  In 2015 her mother, Cindy, passed away after a valiant two years of battling pancreatic cancer.  Her graceful smile, unwillingness to give up and her perseverance to truly live life has forever changed Nickie as a person and an athlete.  Cindy's legacy will always be a part of Nickie's dedication to sport & life, giving her the mindset to cherish the journey not just the end result.  In an effort to Wage Hope for Pancreatic Cancer Nickie is involved in several local and national events that benefit the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network as well as managing the Cincinnati chapter’s social media efforts.

A cancer survivor herself, Nickie has also become involved in local American Cancer Society events through running and cycling, raising money to give back to a cause near and dear to her heart after her own diagnosis with breast cancer.
